We begin our 2023-24 season on 7 September with a talk about the North West Blood Bikes. This will be followed on 21 September when Brent Shore will give us a talk entitled Twenty-Six Nil – I wonder what that could be about!
Our full programme for the season can be seen here.
The Club is stepping up its marketing activities in order to stem some of the membership losses that we have experienced post-Covid.
In addition to our regular advertisement in two of the local free booklets – The PR Pointer and The Local List, we have updated the website home page and, crucially, we are will be engaging a local firm to print and distribute 5,000 leaflets through letterboxes in our area.
So, if you are in the target area, look for one these items on your doormat a week or so before our first meeting.
We had two great visits over the summer – the first to Hoghton Tower and then a trip to see Evita.
17 May saw a group of 30 or so visit Hoghton Tower. With the whole place to ourselves, we began with an excellent Afternoon Tea which was followed by a brief history before a superb guided tour of the house and its grounds. The weather was excellent although, as usual, it was perishing cold at the underground dungeon level!
Then on 17 June we visited the Lowther Pavilion in Lytham for a Saturday afternoon performance of Evita – one of the most loved musicals from the partnership of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.
